Mixing the Reality

Background

The story of the microfilm Soul of Nature began in 2021. It’s based on a short poetic story written by Swiss actress and poet Veronica Herren. She wrote the piece during the devastating European floods of that year.

Together with director Christian Wenger, we set out to bring her poem to life as an immersive visual experience.

What we did?

Creating Soul of Nature was an exploration of how traditional filmmaking and modern technology can coexist in harmony. For us, the production worked as both a creative journey and an experiment, blending real-world film production with the possibilities of AI.

Our goal wasn’t to showcase AI itself, but to see how it could enhance the storytelling process. During the whole production we could see that this hybrid approach actually allowed our small team to work more efficiently and focus on what truly matters.

“AI-slob” or something more?

While we worked on Soul Of Nature AI became one of the many creative tools in our workflow. During pre-production, it helped us generate storyboards and shot concepts that clarified the visual language before shooting. During production, we planned scenes that could later be enhanced with AI, treating it as a partner in post rather than a shortcut.

But in the end, Soul of Nature was made by people; by a small team who carried cameras deep into a forest in Helsinki, chasing light, mood, and emotion. AI didn’t make the film, it simply supported our craftsmanship and this how we want it to be.

What truly shaped the final result was the passion of the crew: talented filmmakers who love creating something meaningful together. The story, the visuals, and the energy on set were all real.

Soul of Nature reminds us that while technology evolves rapidly, the heart of filmmaking remains the same. You just need a group of people coming together to tell stories that reflect the world and our place within it.
