Background
Nias Island, home to the legendary surf break “Sorake Point,” has long been a hidden gem for surfers and adventurers. Now, as Indonesia and Bali see a surge in tourism, Nias is catching the attention of travelers seeking something off the beaten path.
HIMA Bungalows, a boutique resort, is at the forefront of this transformation. Offering a perfect blend of the island’s relaxed charm and modern Scandinavian design, HIMA stands out as a welcoming retreat for visitors. We partnered with HIMA to build their brand from the ground up, crafting everything from the visual identity to the tone of voice that embodies the essence of Nias.

What we did?
The goal was to build a fresh, cohesive brand for HIMA Bungalows, including a modern and visually engaging aesthetics that reflects the essence of the property, improves the guest experience, and drives bookings and engagement.
Drawing inspiration from Nias’s surf culture and Indonesian laid-back lifestyle, our team developed brand guidelines that capture the island’s spirit while appealing to modern travelers. We wanted HIMA Bungalows to be more than just a place to stay. From the first sketch to the final design, every piece was crafted to make HIMA stand out, stay true to its roots, and spark excitement about what Nias island has to offer.

Setting the Tone
To accompany the launch of the new website, we built a dynamic digital & social media presence and messaging strategy to introduce HIMA Bungalows to travelers worldwide. We wanted to highlight the factors that truly set HIMA apart from busier island getaways, property’s laid-back vibe, world-class surf breaks, and untouched surroundings. The tone consistently combines a relaxed feel with a sense of adventure, speaking to guests who want an authentic escape in Nias.

Not just Digital
Our work with HIMA Bungalows didn’t stop at creating a strong digital presence. It extended into shaping the real-world experience of the resort. We created print materials like menus for the in-house restaurant and contributed architectural ideas, such as integrating a comfortable workstation for digital nomads and a unique outdoor shower, blending functionality with the island’s natural charm.
